Google Officially Unveils Travel Sites-Killer Live!!!

Google Inc. has officially unveiled its new service that had travel sites merging in fear of obsolescence — Google Flights.<span id="more-29855"></span>
 The tech giant said Wednesday that it has finalized the service, which 
will display flight costs and travel deals right on a tab within its 
main search page.<br />

Travel site company Expedia Inc. announced a $1.6 billion acquisition
 of its rival Orbitz, reportedly over concerns about competition from 
Google.<br />

Google Flights has a calendar that can be used to find the lowest 
fare for each day, much like other travel sites, but also includes a 
graph of data about how prices fluctuate during different seasons and 
holidays. The service will also suggest to users flights on different 
days or from alternative airports if it means a lower price.<br />

The search giant had made a deal with the Department of Justice to 
protect competition in the travel marketplace after it bought ITA 
Software in 2010, an airfare search software. The deal imposed a number 
of restrictions on how Google could offer travel services, but it 
expires in October.<br />

Google Flights also incorporates the company’s mapping products, 
allowing consumers to see airfare prices around the globe. It also 
includes Google Search’s “I’m Feeling Lucky” button, which offers 
vacation suggestions based on a user’s search history and the popularity
 of a destination.

Police Are Currently Investigating The outage That Cut Off Internet & Phones In Arizona!!!

Phoenix police are investigating an act of vandalism that left people
 across northern Arizona without the use of the Internet, cellphones and
 landlines for several hours.<span id="more-29858"></span><br />

Businesses couldn’t process credit card transactions, ATMs didn’t 
function, law enforcement databases were unavailable, and even weather 
reports were affected in an area stretching from north of Phoenix to 
Flagstaff, about 100 miles away.<br />

CenturyLink spokesman Alex Juarez said the problem was first reported
 around noon Wednesday. Internet and phone service started to come back 
to some residents and businesses in Flagstaff by 6:30 p.m.<br />

All customers were expected to be back online by 3 a.m. Thursday, 
Juarez said. He didn’t immediately have an estimate of how many people 
were affected.<br />

Phoenix police said CenturyLink employees found that a fiber-optic cable in far north Phoenix had been completely cut through.<br />

The cable, which CenturyLink owns, is near a riverbed in an area that
 isn’t easily accessible to vehicles. It carries signals for various 
cellphone, television and Internet providers that serve northern 
Arizona.<br />

According to Juarez, technicians from Monroe, Louisiana-based 
CenturyLink had to go through a long, tedious process of inspecting the 
line “mile by mile.” Meanwhile, Flagstaff’s 69,000 residents tried to go
 about their daily business.<br />

Zak Holland, who works at a computer store at Northern Arizona 
University, said distraught students were nearly in tears when he said 
nothing could be done to restore their Internet connection.<br />

“It just goes to show how dependent we are on the Internet when it disappears,” he said.<br />

Many students told Holland they needed to get online to finish school
 assignments. University spokesman Tom Bauer said it was up to 
individual professors on how to handle potentially late assignments.<br />

Kate Hance and Jessie Hutchison stopped at a Wells Fargo ATM to get 
cash because an ice cream shop couldn’t take credit cards without a data
 connection. They left empty-handed because the outage also put cash 
machines out of service.<br />

“It’s moderately annoying, but it’s not going to ruin my day,” Hutchison said.<br />

Staff at Bookmans Entertainment Exchange in Flagstaff said they tried
 for about 45 minutes to restore their Internet connection before 
employees realized their equipment wasn’t the problem.<br />

Mark Goldstein, secretary for the Arizona Telecommunications and 
Information Council, said CenturyLink’s cable likely has bundles of 
fibers that can be leased to multiple service providers. If the line 
follows only one direction with no alternative paths to reroute service,
 then any damage to the line will wreak havoc.<br />

At Flagstaff City Hall, employees were unable make or receive calls at their desks.<br />

“It’s quieter than usual,” said Stephanie Smith, assistant to the 
city manager. “The good thing is there is still lots of work to get done
 even without phones ringing.”<br />

The city was relying on the Arizona Department of Public Safety to assist with dispatching police and fire services.<br />

In Prescott Valley, about 75 miles north of Phoenix, authorities said
 911 service was being supplemented with hand-held radios and alternate 
phone numbers. Water and sewer facilities switched to manual operations,
 and residents needed cash to make utility and court payments.<br />

Yavapai County spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn said 911 lines were limited 
Wednesday afternoon and authorities couldn’t access law enforcement 
databases.<br />

Weather reports from the region weren’t able to reach anyone. During 
evening newscasts, Phoenix television stations showed blank spaces on 
their weather maps where local temperatures in the affected area would 
normally appear.

Google To Build New Headquarters and A City Fears Being Taken Over Nice to See It!!!

Apple is moving into a Silicon Valley headquarters building that 
looks like a spaceship. Facebook is expanding its campus with a new 
building designed by Frank Gehry. Now it’s Google’s turn.<span id="more-29862"></span><br />

This week, Google, the search giant, is expected to propose new 
headquarters – a series of canopylike buildings from Heatherwick Studio,
 a London design firm known for works like the fiery caldron at the 2012
 Olympics, and Bjarke Ingels, a Danish architect known for his 
innovative designs.<br />

The project in Mountain View, which Google has not made public but 
has discussed with members of the City Council, is likely to aggravate 
an increasingly testy relationship between the company and community 
leaders who fear the company is overrunning their small city.<br />

When Google moved here in 1999, it had a dozen employees and a search
 engine known only to computer aficionados. Now, its 20,000 local 
employees make it the biggest employer in a city that is bursting at the
 seams.<br />

“Our problem is that we have too many good jobs,” said Leonard M. 
Siegel, a 66-year-old environmental activist who was recently elected to
 the City Council. “Everyone else wishes they were in our situation, but
 it’s a crisis for the people here.”<br />

The same story is playing out across Silicon Valley. In Menlo Park, 
home of Facebook, the November election featured a measure – ultimately 
rejected by voters – that would have cut downtown office growth in half.
 Citizen groups in nearby Palo Alto have rebranded their City Council’s 
most anti-development members as “residentialists.”<br />

“Nobody wants change,” said Gilbert Wong, a councilman in Cupertino, 
Apple’s hometown. “It’s my role as an elected official to explain to our
 residents that either you get on board and help us figure out the 
balance between jobs and housing, or other people are going to make that
 decision for us.”<br />

Google owns or leases about 7.3 million square feet of office space 
in Mountain View – roughly equivalent to three Empire State Buildings. 
That includes most of the property around its headquarters on the north 
side of the city near Highway 101, which cuts the length of the valley, 
according to Transwestern, a commercial real estate brokerage.<br />

That success has brought Mountain View loads of tax dollars and a 3.3
 percent unemployment rate, as well as skyrocketing home prices and 
intolerable gridlock. Good and bad, tech is responsible for most of it: 
Technology companies account for 27 percent of the jobs in the Silicon 
Valley region, compared with 7 percent in California and about 5 percent
 nationally, according to Moody’s Analytics.<br />

The result is an existential argument that pits residents who want to
 halt the city’s growth against people who think Mountain View needs to 
grow up and become a real city.<br />

Mountain View, about 40 miles south of San Francisco, has close to 
80,000 people; with its strip-mall thoroughfares and streets of 
single-family homes, it looks like a sleepy suburb. But since hiring has
 boomed, the city’s roads swell with commuters during the morning and 
evening rush.<br />

Katherine Suri, a retired NASA scientist, moved to the city in 1974 
and lives on a quarter-acre lot whose original views included a nursery 
and apricot orchards. She spent a good deal of the ’80s chauffeuring her
 children around town in an Oldsmobile station wagon.<br />

Now her view is of other houses, and the traffic is so bad that Suri 
makes sure to schedule her doctors’ appointments around 11 a.m. When she
 walks to the YMCA each morning, she sometimes has to weave between cars
 stuck in gridlock.<br />

Despite the inconveniences, Suri has accepted that the city will 
change whether she likes it or not. “Mountain View is getting more 
populous with Google and the other companies, and that’s just the way it
 is,” she said. “We need to learn how to deal with it.”<br />

Google has tried to reduce traffic, for both the city and itself. It 
transports its employees to work in private buses and was at one point 
experimenting with bringing some of its San Francisco workers in on 
boats. In January, the company started a free daytime shuttle that is 
open to the public, and during the daytime its workers can be seen 
pedaling around the city on multicolored company bikes.<br />

Since so much of the traffic is associated with Google, Mountain View
 has spent the last two years debating a plan to redevelop the city’s 
North Bayshore area, which surrounds Google’s main offices and is close 
to major highways.<br />

Google’s vision for a new Googleplex, the nickname for the company’s 
headquarters, will include bike and pedestrian paths and is one of 
several development proposals from various companies expected to be 
submitted to the city Friday.<br />

“These companies are world-class corporations bringing worldwide 
attention to Mountain View, and Mountain View needs to evolve to a 
world-class city,” said Ken S. Rosenberg, one of seven members of the 
City Council. “One of the criteria of a world-class city is that it is 
architecturally interesting.”<br />

Even if Google’s proposal is accepted, the city’s most divisive issue
 – how much new housing to build and where – has yet to be settled. 
Google executives have said on several occasions that they want to add 
housing to North Bayshore, but Mountain View’s outgoing City Council 
found many reasons to say no.<br />

One argument was that it would be dangerous to burrowing owls that 
live underground in adjacent Shoreline Park. Another was that if people 
moved there, they would soon want more schools and other expensive 
services. Others feared that new housing could create a Google voting 
bloc.<br />

Last November, in an election that was widely viewed as a referendum 
on the city’s housing policies, Mountain View elected three candidates, 
including Rosenberg, who campaigned on the idea of adding housing near 
Google’s campus, an idea that runs contrary to the previous council’s 
redevelopment plan.<br />

Google’s headquarters proposal does not include any plans for 
housing. But the company has told the City Council that it wants 
housing, and lots of it. Councilman Siegel, for one, agrees. He wants to
 amend the city’s plan to allow at least 5,000 new housing units.<br />
That this could bring in even more Google employees is just what some people fear.<br />

“This last election we had maybe 12,000 voters,” said Jac Siegel, a 
city councilman who left office this year and is not related to Leonard 
Siegel. “If you brought 5,000 people in and they all work for Google and
 they said, ‘We want you to vote for this candidate,’ they can own the 
town.”<br />

Prosecutors claim Abid Naseer plotted attacks on targets in Manchester, as well as in New York and Copenhagen.<br />

Sky’s Hannah Thomas-Peter in New York said the evidence revealed on 
Wednesday was part of a “treasure trove” of al Qaeda material seized 
during the US special forces raid on Bin Laden’s Abbottabad compound in 
May 2011.<br />

 Qaeda leaders were thinking and communicating with the organisation’s 
chief before he was killed in the raid on his Pakistani hideout.<br />

One message in particular reflected the vitriol the terror group reserved specifically for the US.<br />

It said: “Here we are praise be to God, watching the faltering of the United States and its allies.<br />

personalities best suited to plan and carry out attacks.<br />

The striking evidence was revealed as the prosecution finished 
submitting its case against Naseer, who they allege plotted to blow up 
the Arndale shopping centre in Manchester.<br />

The 28-year-old, who was extradited to the US in 2013, has denied being part of a global al Qaeda conspiracy.<br />

Naseer was initially arrested after 2009 terror raids in Manchester, but released without charge.<br />

He is representing himself in court.<br />

“I chose to represent myself on personal grounds,” Naseer said on Wednesday.<br />

“I wanted people to hear my voice and my story.”<br />

He said he was interested in non-political religion, and that “terrorism is not compatible with Islam”.

Hackers Get $1.3m From Facebook For Detecting A Flaw

Hundreds of ‘white hat’ hackers shared a bounty of $1.3m (£840,000) 
in 2014 for spotting and reporting Facebook’s security flaws.<br />

The bug bounty programme was started in 2011 to encourage hackers to report security problems for cash.<br />

Hackers who report security flaws rather than exploit them are known as white hat hackers, instead of black hat hackers.<br />

More than 17,000 bugs and security issues were reported in 2014, up 16% year-on-year.<br />

The average payout per hacker was $4,049 (£2,607) but many hackers 
were paid far higher or lower sums based on how serious the issues 
spotted were.<br />

The highest bounty in 2014 was $30,000 (£19,300) paid to a Lithuanian researcher.<br />

The minimum bounty payment is $500 (£321).<br />

messages and post on their timelines.<br />

Facebook’s security engineer Collin Greene said: “Every year we are 
surprised by what we learn from the security community, and 2014 was no

Abductors of American Missionary in Kogi Reduce Ransom Demand from N60 Million to N30 Million

The gunmen who abducted 87-year-old American woman missionary, <strong>Phyllis Sortor</strong>, have reduced their ransom demand for her release from N60 million to N30 million, an aide of hers said.<br />

The aide, <strong>Jacob Ahiaba,</strong> informed newsmen about the new development at Emi Woro community in Ajaokuta Local Government Area on Wednesday.<br />

Ahiaba said Sortor told him via telephone, that the gunmen had 
reduced their demand to N30 million and asked that efforts be made to 
get the money to secure her release as soon as possible.<br />

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi, <strong>Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi,</strong> confirmed that the abductors had actually established contact with members of the church and asked for N30 million ransom.<br />

Immigration officials barred Brown from entering Canada yesterday, forcing him to cancel two concerts.<br />

Brown was scheduled to perform in Montreal on Tuesday and Toronto on 
Wednesday as part of the Between The Sheets tour with Trey Songz. Live 
Nation cited “immigration issues” as the problem, and assured fans that 
tickets to both shows would be refunded.<br />

Brown reportedly tweeted to his followers, “Unfortunately I will not 
be able to perform in front of sold out crowds in Montreal & 
Toronto,” before following up with, “The good people of the Canadian 
government wouldn’t allow me entry. I’ll be back this summer and will 
hopefully see all my Canadian fans!” Both tweets have since been 
deleted, though it’s unclear why, because they frankly seem like pretty 
classy ways to handle the situation.<br />

It’s unclear why Brown wasn’t allowed to cross the border, though 
multiple reports suggest it’s probably linked to his criminal history, 
which includes pleading guilty to assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 
2009 and felony assault in 2013.<br />
