Moreover, Akinbiyi had no job and was dependent on his father.<br />A bloodcurdling incident happened on May 21 at about 11.05 p.m. at the deceased’s residence. The father's unwillingness to sell the land belonging to him sparked the argument that resulted in his own death.<br /><br />It was gathered that on the money raised from the sale of land the younger Akinbiyi was going to travel abroad but his father was strongly against this idea. <br />When an amicable way of persuading did not work, the Yusuf Akinbiyi brutally beat the old man with his hands and covered his mouth and nose with pillow till the man stopped breathing.<br />After a while the accused was arrested on suspicion of premeditated murder. The body of the deceased had been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy.<br />The accused is facing a one-count charge of murder, as the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.  <br /><br />The magistrate, Miss A.O Komolafe, ordered that the accused be kept in prison custody pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions. "Most of them have come to report the incident at our offices but they are all saying such demands are not tenable".<br /><br />The officer said they were presently handling a particular case at the police Divisional Outpost in Jakana town of Kaga local government, about 50km away from Maiduguri, where the Fulani man said he would rather stay without his wife than giving out what he does not even have.<br /><br />"This man in question has a son delivered to him by his abducted wife and presently the man and his son are at the police station in Jakana; he said he was asked to provide 40 cows as ransom for the release of his abducted wife, but the man said he has his son with him; and that if God wills that his wife would return to him, he doesn't need to part with his means of livelihood to secure her back".<br /><br />The Fulani man's concern was that "what if he gave out the cows, which are not even up to 40 and then his wife was not released; it means he would lose in both ways. So he would rather keep his herds and his son and pray that his wife returns safely home one day".<br /><br />There are a lot of concerns being expressed around Borno State as to the increasing impunity of the Boko Haram, whose activities were gradually becoming unchecked.<br /><br />Borno State police command has hitherto not been able to officially issue any statement in respect of the abducted Fulani women, even though the police public relations officer of the state police command had on Monday promised to get back to journalists once he could confirm the veracity of the abduction itself.<br /><br />Garkin Fulani is situated not very far from Chibok town, where the 219 schoolgirls still in the captivity of the Boko Haram were picked alongside 57 others that had escaped back on the 14th of April this year.</span> <br /> <br />

<div class="story-image"> <div class="story-image-container"> <a class="pop_image" href="http://media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2014/06/Godswill-Akpabio-0h.jpg" itemprop="image thumbnailUrl"><img height="" src="http://media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2014/06/Godswill-Akpabio-0h-500x250.jpg" width="" /></a></div> </div> <strong>PREMIUM TIMES had exclusively exposed Mr. Akpabio’s plan to pocket a staggering N200 million, among other scandalous perks after leaving office in 2015.</strong><span id="more-162609"></span><br /> <div style="text-align: center;"> —————————————–</div> It was pressure from President Goodluck Jonathan that forced the profligate Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, to back down on his scandalous pension law, PREMIUM TIMES can authoritatively report.<br /> A flustered Mr. Akpabio had last week said following nationwide outcry, he was requesting the state assembly to immediately review the law, with a view to expunging one of its obnoxious provisions.<br /> “This is a democracy and you must listen to the voice of the people,” Mr. Akpabio had said. “What I have decided to do, in consultation with the state executive council, is to appeal to the house of assembly to immediately expunge the obnoxious provision or that which is interpreted to be obnoxious.”<br /> Mr. Akpabio had indicated he would only expunge the provision of the law which provided for N100 million medical allowance for ex-governors. “I hope that will satisfy Nigerians,” he said.<br /> He is, however, unwilling to give up his request for a mansion in Uyo or Abuja and a demand for N12 million medical allowance for his wife.<br /> <strong>Pressure from above</strong><br /> But a Presidency source, who cannot be named because he is not permitted to speak on the matter, said Mr. Jonathan was thoroughly embarrassed by the public outcry that greeted the controversial law.<br /> While Nigerians from all walks of life poured opprobrium on the governor and members of the state’s rubber stamp assembly for initiating and passing the law, the source said, Mr. Jonathan summoned Mr. Akpabio to the Villa.<br /> He said the President was particularly angry that at a time the country was going through pressure over the kidnap of the Chibok girls by Boko Haram insurgents, Mr. Akpabio’s outrageous pension law had further dented the country’s image.<br /> “Mr. President has been working hard to ensure the release of the Chibok girls and to bring an end to Boko Haram insurgency amidst strong public criticism,” the source said.<br /> “It was shocking to know that the governor went ahead to sign the bill into law when public outcry was at its height, thereby painting the party and its leaders as being insensitive to the feelings of Nigerians.<br /> “You remember how people went on the social media to insult the President and the first lady on the Chibok matter. The governor’s pension law was one of the actions that was going to thoroughly embarrass the government and the Peoples Democratic Party.<br /> “That was why Mr. Akpabio was summoned to the Villa and asked to go back and reverse the law. He was particularly directed to issue a statement to reverse the law and that was what he did.<br /> “No President dead or alive in Nigeria is entitled to such retirement perks. It was totally unacceptable and Mr. President didn’t minced words about it.”<br /> <strong>A minister’s veiled criticism</strong><br /> PREMIUM TIMES further learnt that the call by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Nigerian governors to account for the funds they have received from the Federation Accounts was a veiled criticism of Mr. Akpabio.<br /> It was one of the strongest criticisms ever made by Mr. Jonathan’s administration against some governors, who are considered “untouchable” especially in the ruling party.<br /> Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala, had while delivering a convocation lecture at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State penultimate Saturday said Akwa Ibom and Rivers states received more than $3.1 billion as total federal revenue allocation in 2013.<br /> The minister said Akwa Ibom State got about $1.7 billion (N260 billion) from the Federation Account during the year, while Rivers State got about $1.5 billion (N230 billion).<br /> She insisted that the total amount received by the two oil producing states was about half of Ghana’s entire $6.4 billion budget.<br /> Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala also explained that the two states, ranked among the top ten highest recipients of the federal allocations during the year totaling over N1.56 trillion.<br /> The other top recipients included Delta State – N209 billion, or $1.3 billion, Bayelsa -N173 billion, or $1.1billion, Lagos -N168billion, or $1.1billion, Kano- N140 billion, or $900 million and Katsina -N103 billion, or $700 million.<br /> The list also included Oyo State -N100 billion, or $600 million, Kaduna-N97 billion, or $600 million, and Borno-N94 billion, or $600 million.<br /> The minister had said that these were conservative figures, as the data do not include their internally generated revenues, IGR, which are often significantly substantial enough to rival the allocations.<br /> Further analysis of the allocations, the minister said, would show that revenue allocations to these during the year dwarfed the budgets of countries like Liberia -$433 million, Gambia -$210 million, and Benin Republic- $1.47 billion.<br /> On a per capita income basis, which consists of the quantum of revenue per population, she said Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Delta states were the three top recipients of allocations from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC.<br /> According to her, Bayelsa got a total of 84,500, or $545, Akwa Ibom got N55, 600 or $360, while Delta got N42,000 or $270.<br /> When compared with the per capita incomes of neighbouring countries, the minister said many of the states receive more than what Ghana, Benin Republic, Liberia and Gambia receive.<br /> While Ghana gets $255, Benin Republic gets $146, Liberia gets $103, and Gambia; $117.<br /> Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala challenged Nigerians to call their governors to account for the huge resources they have been receiving.<br /> <strong>A governor’s gluttonous retirement perks</strong><br /> PREMIUM TIMES had exclusively exposed Mr. Akpabio’s plan to pocket a staggering N200 million, among other scandalous perks after leaving office in 2015.<br /> The governor, reputed for wasting his state’s oil money and for making outrageous donations across the country while millions of his own people wallow in poverty and disease, had attempted to secretly pass the scandalous law.<br /> But following the report, Nigerians from all walks of life had strongly criticized him and the state’s rubber stamp assembly for passing the law, which would further impoverish the people of his state.<br /> Initially, Mr. Akpabio scrambled to defend his action, buying prime time appearances on leading TV networks and sponsoring articles in national dailies to justify why he and his wife must live in mind-boggling opulence for the rest of their lives in a hugely indebted state where millions can’t find jobs.<br /> A presenter in one of the private television stations, said to be a major beneficiary of Mr. Akpabio’s largesse, had come on air to defend the law, saying the governor was right to take any amount as pension “because he has done so much for the people.”<br /> While Mr. Akpabio has rescinded part of the obnoxious law, many Nigerians have questioned the integrity and proprietary of the campaigns earlier carried out by those who saw nothing wrong in the outrageous retirement perks.<br /> Attempts to speak with the Special Adviser to the President on Media, Rueben Abati and the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Doyin Okukpe, failed as they would not pick calls to their mobile telephones.<br /> Texts messages sent to Mr. Abati were also not replied.

That portion of the wall is then opened for him to enter.”<br /> He explained that the late Mr. Bayero used a part of the western end of the fence to enter the palace.</div> <div style="text-align: left;"> “If you notice towards the western end, along Yola road, you will see an opening that is covered with concrete block, that was the door Ado Bayero used when he was appointed as emir,” he said.</div> <div style="text-align: left;"> He also added that if the police or protesters were there to stop the new emir from gaining entrance, they would have stopped the party that went to the palace to fetch the paraphernalia of office that was handed over to Mr. Sanusi.<br /> “The police provided security escort to the team that went to fetch all those items and it was not done in the hidden, the vehicles went through the main gate and none attempted to stop them despite knowing of their mission,” he said.</div> <div style="text-align: left;"> The items recovered from the palace and handed over to the new emir include the symbolic Dabo’s Crown (Malafar Dabo), Tagwayen Masu (twin spears), Takobi (sword), Wukar Yanka (a knife that signifies supremacy of judgement) and Takalmin Jimina (ostrich plumage shoes).</div> <div style="text-align: left;"> PREMIUM TIMES also gathered that the new emir will today (Wednesday) hold court at the Nassarawa Mausoleum, which is a tradition that usually precedes his entrance to the palace.<br /> “How long he stays at hawan Nasarawa depends on him,” our source added.</div> <div style="text-align: left;"> Another source within the Kano state government who also declined to be named because he has not been authorised to, said the family of the late emir also need time to fully relocate to their new abode provided by the state government.<br /> “The late emir had a large family and they will need to take their time to relocate and no one is in a hurry to move them,” he said. “Beside, you know they are still receiving condolences at the palace.”</div> <div style="text-align: left;"> The police spokesperson in Kano, Magaji Majiya, also told PREMIUM TIMES that security presence in the palace is just to secure the place and ensure there is no escalation of violence following the protest that greeted the announcement of the new emir.<br /> “You know the situation of things demands that we remain vigilant and ensure that any tendency for violence to erupt is quickly nipped in the bud,” he said. “That is why security is intensified.”</div>

So, while the governor was there, I am also told, they began to lock all the gates to the exit of the airport and they locked the gates with the governor inside the aircraft.<br /><br />“For the governor to exit the airport, somebody had to break the padlock of the gate. So, the governor and his team could leave. That amounts to imprisonment without charge.<br /><br />“I got the Kano State Commissioner for State Affairs, who briefed me and told me that the chartered aircraft that conveyed the governor to Kano, was denied take-off from Aminu Kano International Airport by a fellow identified as the Commandant, acting on orders from above.<br /><br />“That was the only information he (Kano State Commissioner for State Affiars) was willing to share when the governor enquired about what offence he and the aircraft operators had committed. With the governor was Alhaji Kawu Baraje as well as Senator Danjuma Goje, a former governor of Gombe State,” Semenitari added.<br /><br />She pointed out that the ordeal of the state governor, Amaechi, did not portend well for the nation’s democracy.<br /><br />Describing the incident at the Kano Airport as an ‘imprisonment’ of the governor, Semenitari, said the development was a wrong signal ahead of the 2015 general elections.<br /><br />“More seriously is the fact that this does not portend well for our democracy. It does not portend well for us as we enter into the next election. A situation where newspapers are seized is the beginning of stifling Nigerians,” she stressed.<br /><br />Amaechi had gone to condole with the Kano State Governor on the demise of the immediate past Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.</span> <br />

<div class="story-image"> <div class="story-image-container"> <img height="" itemprop="image thumbnailUrl" src="http://media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2013/12/Native-doctor.jpg" width="" /></div> </div> <strong>The native doctor also tricked his victims into drinking an acid, the police said.</strong><span id="more-162473"></span><br /> A 45-year-old native doctor, Jamiu Alao, was on Monday charged with defrauding two men of N21.1 million and attempted murder at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.<br /> Mr. Alao, who lives at Ijebu-Ode, Ogun, is facing charges of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences and attempted murder.<br /> He pleaded not guilty to the charges.<br /> But the prosecutor, Innocent Odugbo, told the court that Mr. Alao committed the offences with others still at large sometime in April at Mayfair Estate, Ajah in Lekki.<br /> He said the native doctor collected N3million from one Raimi Oluwaseyi under the guise of giving him spiritual protection.<br /> The prosecutor said the accused had on April 8 at Ijabi Quarters, Ijebu-Ode, also collected $116,000 (N19.1million) from Mr. Oluwaseyi and one David Orji on the pretext of protecting them spiritually.<br /> “The native doctor gave the complainants a substance to drink for spiritual protection and directed that it should be consumed at a residence in Lagos.<br /> “Orji and Oluwaseyi drank the substance which turned out to be an acid,” Mr. Odugbo said.<br /> According to Odugbo, the complainants had to travel abroad to seek urgent medical attention for internal injuries they received.<br /> He said the offences contravened Sections 228(2), 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.<br /> The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 228 (2) recommends life imprisonment for attempted murder.<br /> The Magistrate, O. Olanipekun, granted the native doctor bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.<br /> The case was adjourned to June 30 for mention.<br /> (NAN)

NLC condemns harassment of media houses

Our sources said numerous soldiers had handed in their weapons and deserted in civilian clothes.<br /> On Saturday night, the Nigerian army had routed the Islamist terrorists, killing more than fifty of them and driving them out of Biita and Izge. But our military sources disclosed that Boko Haram returned in full force yesterday morning in a fierce fight that overwhelmed the soldiers. “They [Boko Haram militants] returned to Biita and Izge since yesterday morning with six armored personnel carriers (APC) to attack us,” one of the soldiers said.<br /> He and other sources told SaharaReporters that rampaging Boko Haram fighters, numbering at least 500 and heavily armed, attacked and sacked army bases located in the area.<br /> Realizing that they were outgunned, the soldiers fled their positions as the militants roared towards their positions in Biita. One source asserted that the soldiers had completely deserted Izge and Biita as militants retake the town and retrieved all the weapons earlier taken from them on Saturday and Sunday.<br /> The soldiers complained about the inadequacy of weaponry and other equipment to confront Boko Haram fighters. Several soldiers revealed that many soldiers deserted their camps after handing over their weapons at the army headquarters in Michika, Adamawa State earlier today. At least 100 soldiers reportedly left through Shua-Mubi Road wearing civilian clothing.<br /> A mid-level officer told SaharaReporters that the Nigerian army had increased operations and aggressively deployed more soldiers in the last week in order to convince the US and other European nations helping Nigeria with intelligence that the military was serious about defeating Boko Haram. “But the issue is that troop morale remains low. The talk from [those in] Abuja has not been met with equal zeal to provide ammunition and logistical equipment to combat Boko Haram,” said the officer.<br /> Some of the soldiers disclosed that Boko Haram fighters have more APCs than Nigerian soldiers on the frontlines.<br /> One soldier wondered why military commanders in Abuja had not mobilized the Nigerian Air Force to take out tanks used by Boko Haram fighters despite the fact that the militants use these tanks in open operations. “Our air force jets can easily locate them and bomb them,” said the soldier, “so why are we not doing so?”

He loves the people of the state; he shares their pain on the loss of the late emir.”<br /> It was gathered that the protest that greeted Sanusi’s choice on Sunday was instigated.<br /> A source said one of the contestants for the stool may go to court to challenge Sanusi’s emergence. Yesterday, Sanusi waved the olive branch, urging his fellow contestants to join hands with him in running the emirate.<br /> Some forces are pushing for the maintenance of the <em>status quo</em> once the dispute over the stool is in court to deny Sanusi access to the palace.<br /> The source said: “The police have deployed some of their men in the palace to protect it for security reasons. These policemen were drafted to the palace on Sunday night after the emergence of the new Emir.<br /> “The police said they were acting on intelligence report including the invasion of the Emir’s personal room in the palace by some people who stole some items. They said they are investigating the theft.<br /> “There is however a strong suspicion that the policemen were brought to the place to stop Sanusi from having access to the palace following protests.<br /> “They are under stern instruction not to allow any person, including the new Emir, from entering the palace until all issues surrounding the appointment are resolved.”<br /> Responding to a question, the source added: “The police might have got wind of plans to go to court by some people to stop the installation of Sanusi.<br /> “They said they expect all stakeholders to stick to the <em>status quo</em>.”<br /> Findings also revealed that a tight security ring had been woven around the four kingmakers, Alhaji Yusuf Nabani (Madakin Kano); Alhaji Sarki Abdullahi (Makaman Kano); Alhaji Bello Tuta (Sarki Dawaki Mai-Tuta); and Alhaji Mukhtar Adnan (Sarki Bai).<br /> Another source added:  “Some riot policemen have been provided for the kingmakers to protect them from any harm.<br /> “Virtually everyone is besieging the kingmakers to know what really transpired at their session on Saturday and Sunday.<br /> “So, these kingmakers are central to the appointment of a new Emir and aftermath in Kano. How Jonathan, PDP helped Sanusi to become Emir of Kano, By Paul Ibe

The monarch’s death followed prolonged illness that may have been exacerbated by the traumatic experiences of the Boko Haram attacks in and around the palace and the ancient city of Kano.<br /> But Ado Bayero could not have chosen a better day to join his maker: a holy Friday. And in line with Islamic doctrine, the man, who only last year marked his golden jubilee on the throne of Kano, was interred.<br /> The demise of this venerable and quintessential bridge-builder marked the end of an era. And on Sunday, maverick former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (SLS) was named in his stead as the 14^th Emir of Kano.<br /> His appointment as Emir, in fulfillment of a life-long ambition, was victory for his supporters and bookmakers, who had wagered their money on him. But it has left butterflies in the stomach of his opponents, who find it inconceivable that they may have to eventually bow before Emir Sanusi.<br /> Mr. Sanusi knew what he wanted and had started very early in life to make real his ambition. His ascension to the throne lends credence to the postulation by Ralph Waldo Emerson, American essayist and poet, that “the only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be”.<br /> Mr. Sanusi did not become the Emir of Kano by accident. Though he is qualified by virtue of his lineage (being a grandson of Muhammadu Sanusi, the 11^th Emir of Kano) to make a bid for the exalted throne, it was indeed, ironically, the actions and inactions of some of his opponents that helped him in achieving his life-long ambition. In this category can be counted the Jonathan administration in particular, some of his aides who acted as if they are fifth columnists in his government and the erstwhile Bamanga Tukur-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).<br /> Mr. Sanusi’s path to becoming emir started to become easy last August 31 when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar led the G7 in a walkout at the PDP national convention in Abuja. The resultant split paved the way for the formation of the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), which members were later to find permanent residency in the mega opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC).<br /> The Bisi Akande-led opposition party was too willing to open its doors to political heavyweights that included Atiku Abubakar Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sokoto), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), among others. And soon, the opposition party was further buoyed by the cross carpeting of 11 senators, 49 members of the House of Representatives, ex-governors and ex-lawmakers. For the APC, there seems to be no end to its fishing for new members from the ranks of the ruling party.<br /> If the mismanagement of the PDP crisis that led to the split of the party and defection of some of its key members to the APC was a tipping point, the suspension of Mr. Sanusi as the helmsman of the CBN by President Jonathan on February 19 elevated the administration’s “political potholes” to “political craters.” That suspension, which was a culmination of the face-off between Mr. Sanusi and the Jonathan administration over unremitted oil proceeds totaling $20 billion ensured a convergence of opposition in that flank of the many battles of the administration. It was only a matter of time before the APC, which now has his state governor, Mr. Kwankwaso, in its fold, took ownership of Mr. Sanusi’s battle.<br /> Reminded of William Shakespeare’s exhortation that “it is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves,” Mr. Sanusi, now out in limbo, was too willing to align forces with the opposition party. For the party and the pariah, it could only have been a win-win.<br /> I am not in a position to verify if those who wanted Mr. Sanusi’s head ever read the “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu. If they did, then they would have been in the know about the Chinese writer’s counsel to “keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.” Out of job, Mr. Sanusi had plenty of time to fraternize with the opposition and learn one or two tricks from them.<br /> It needs no telling that the relationship that benefited him the most was that between him and Governor Kwankwaso, the man who would have the last say on the appointment of a new Emir of Kano. Of course we all knew that late Emir Ado Bayero was ill but no one except the clairvoyant could have had a sense of his passage. But keeping tabs with the power bases, if and when the need arises, is a sine qua non in these matters and Mr. Sanusi did just that.<br /> The scenario would surely have been different if Mr. Kwankwaso did not defect to the APC. That would have made it an uphill task for a sitting PDP governor to make one of the harshest critics of the Jonathan administration the Emir of Kano when the stool became vacant following the demise of Emir Ado Bayero. As they say in PDP parlance, the issue would have been handled as a “family affair” and perhaps Mr. Sanusi’s dream of mounting the throne of his forebears would have gone up in smoke.<br /> By now I am sure that the Jonathan administration must be bemoaning a lost opportunity arising from the wrong choices it made. If the government had not been focused on humiliating Mr. Sanusi by bundling him out of the CBN, the banker would have quit the plum job on June 1 and Godwin Emefiele would still have stepped into his shoes.<br /> Mr. Sanusi’s exit date from the CBN was just five days before the demise of Emir Ado Bayero last Friday. The truth is that a battle-weary and damaged Mr. Sanusi may not have been an attractive and preferred option for the coveted throne.<br /> The Jonathan administration made a hero of Mr. Sanusi by its mismanagement of the crisis over the missing $20bn. Because of the manner the controversial banker was booted out, he attracted huge deposits of sympathy to his bank of goodwill. And don’t we all love the seemingly oppressed?<br /> It was no secret that Mr. Sanusi wanted to be Emir of Kano more than anything else. The man himself had said so in an interview in 2009. His appointment as Dan Maje Kano in June 2012 was to ostensibly prepare him for the office.<br /> He walked with the swagger of royalty and was not shy to show off his regalia at the CBN headquarters in Abuja. That was how much Mr. Sanusi desired the Kano stool. His desire was, however, matched by his determination to make his dream come true.<br /> Now his harshest critics would know that in preparation for this journey from banker to the throne, Mr. Sanusi had as far back as in 1997 obtained a degree in Sharia and Islamic Studies from the African International University in Khartoum, Sudan.<br /> Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was destined to be Emir of Kano and was ironically helped in his quest by his opponents. Mr. Kwankwaso’s defection to the APC and the controversial former banker’s humiliation out of CBN all worked in concert in his favour.<br /> But as protests over his appointment continues, the question is: Will the man who wanted to be Emir of Kano have the ideal atmosphere to reign and enjoy the spoils of his conquest.

House, Kano. 9/6/2014</div> </div> The governing ruling Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] has congratulated the new emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, and admonished him to emulate his predecessor by not leaning towards any political party.<br /> <span style="color: #222222;">The party said it expects the new Emir to remain non-partisan deserving of the exalted and revered office.</span><br /> The party’s congratulatory message is contained in a statement issued Monday night by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh.<br /> It came more than 24 hours after the party committed a huge blunder by rushing to congratulate Mr. Sanusi’s rival, Sanusi Ado Bayero, even when official announcement of the chosen candidate had not been made.<br /> Apparently terribly embarrassed, the party hurriedly withdrew the statement after it became clear that Mr. Ado Bayero had lost to Mr. Sanusi.<br /> In its statement Monday night, the party urged the new monarch  to be non-partisan.<br /> It advised the traditional ruler not to consider himself an “emir of any political party but that of the entire people of the Kano Emirate”.<br /> “The PDP holds the office of the Emir of Kano in very high esteem. Awkwardly, and off the record among those who cover national politics, many had said that it is a request the journalists said they can't guarantee.<br /> Shortly afterwards, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh, had barred the PUNCH correspondent from covering the activities of the party because of the reporter's critical reports.<br /> He also did the same to the reporter of the BluePrint newspaper few days ago. Many in the media believe it was because the reporter had detailed in his reports, the disagreements among the members of the party's National Working Committee.<br /> Before these two incidents, Metuh had during the reign of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, had also barred a THISDAY reporter from covering the party because the reporter did a story that he (Metuh) didn't like.<br /> The intervention of some people, including advisors and others close to the media, saved what would have become an embarrassing situation for the party, and its leadership.<br /> Metuh is said to be “desperate” to impose his lackeys on the reporters as their leader, with the hope of using him to spy on the reporters, and the stories they file at the end of each assignment.

They previously were signed onto Bigboyz Ent, but with their crossover to DB Records, their career can only get bigger.<br /><br />With speculations and unconfirmed rumours circulating about the Tonto Dikeh deal, there have been mixed reactions to the move. Many are of the opinion that Tonto was not recruited for her musical dexterity, but as a PR stunt to add a certain allure and spotlight on DB Records.
