An early morning downpour has washed away a four-year-old baby boy, simply identified as Gideon, in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday.
The incident which occurred at Atikeke community of Gaa-Akanbi area threw residents into a state of pandemonium.
It was gathered that the incident happened when the grandmother of the victim was taking her family to church for early morning devotion.
An eyewitness said that the old woman was taking four of her grand children to the Church but on getting to the narrow part where steel was laid across the river for passersby the boy slipped inside and fell inside the drainage.
He said, “I saw them when they were coming; I was on the other side of the river. The old woman waited for her grandchildren to pass one by one but the boy in front of all of them slipped and fell inside the drainage and was swept away by the flood.
“I think the steel laid across the drainage for people to pass was slippery due to the early morning rain.”
