NAGAFF Backs New Land Borders Vehicle Transit Scheme!!!
The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has praised the new vehicle transit scheme at the land borders, whose enforcement has begun at the Seme border.
NAGAFF’s deputy national president, Shipping and Transport Logistics, Mr Ugochukwu Nnadi yesterday said the new policy, which entails that vehicles being imported from neighbouring countries are handed over to Nigeria Customs by the country’s Customs, would in addition to increasing revenue collection base for government, create 100,000 freight forwarding jobs in the country.
Nnadi also said the willingness of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to re-float a national carrier in shipping business partnering the private sector would add impetus to the country’s economy, as Nigeria loses so much on FOB (free on board) transactions. “Nigeria merited consideration to fly a national flag and we urge the indigenous shipping agents to close ranks with NIMASA in this regard,” Nnadi said.
He explained that the new vehicle transit policy is a “good platform for security and data enhancement for economic planning.
“The advantage of this new policy direction shall also reduce cost in the anti smuggling functions of the Custom Service and engendering peace between the Service and the border communities.
“This popular trade policy should extend to general cargo and commodity goods and we appreciate the implementation of Cabotage laws in its essence and concept,” he said.
“We do hope soonest that the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (CRFFN), the Nigeria Shippers’ Council and Customs as regulators in supply chain management shall take responsibility to stop multinationals and other foreign nationals engaged in freight business in our locality.
“The federal government should stand up to jobs creation in Nigeria and we do know that if properly handled and managed the freight forwarding and logistics administration can provide well over 100000 jobs for Nigerians,” Nnadi added.
