The Ibrede, an Isoko extraction, Ndokwa East local government area of Delta State was enveloped in communal crisis, leaving no fewer than 50 houses and properties worth millions of naira destroyed at the weekend.
Reports said that the community had been restive in an age-long land dispute between the Uruebo’s family and youths from the community, and efforts to settle the disputes by elders of the community had proved abortive.
It was gathered that some building were allegedly destroyed while some members of the Uruebo’s family left with various degree of machete injuries when the land matter came up for discussion in December 2013.
The incident was confirmed by the police public relations officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, who disclosed that several persons have been arrested in connection with the unwholesome act, adding that the suspects would be charged to court on conclusion of investigations.
Speaking on theincident, the president general of the community, Mr. Shedrach Chukwuma Obaduemu, narrated that between December 2013 / January 2014, the community led by one Enifoke Ononewerike who allegedly claimed to be the new president general of the community ostracized the Uruebo’s family from Ibrede community, a situation that deepened the crisis leaving both parties at consistent war.
