Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State has relieved 12 special
advisers of their appointment in a move many say was an attempt to strengthen his team as the 2015 general election approaches.
This latest development comes barely two weeks after the governor effected a minor cabinet reshuffle in which three commissioners swapped ministries.
This was made known to newsmen yesterday through a press release by the Secretary to the state government, Kobis Ari Thimnu.
“The Government of Adamawa State has approved the withdrawal of the appointment of 12 political appointees with effect from the 21st May, 2014,” the statement said.
Those affected include 5 special advisers, 1 principal special assistant and 6 senior special assistants. The special advisers affected by the sack include; Sanusi Faruq Jauro, Abdurrahman Bobboi, Kelvin Peter, George Moses and Chubado Babbi. The senior special assistants include Danjuma H, Bello Njidda Tukur, Gidado Aliyu Mohmud, Shehu Baba Jacob, Usman Marafa and Hadiza Kuto being the only principal special assistant.
Sources close to government House, Yola, said the sack may not be unconnected with the suspicion of double cross by the affected persons, as some of the advisers have allegedly pitched tent with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state in the build-up to the 2014 elections.
